Features from confluence

Dokuwiki is a great free open source wiki solution but it’s lacking some features that I’m used to with confluence at work. Here are the things that I like using with confluence:

  • Inline comments - this is probably one of the biggest things I miss in dokuwiki; we use inline comments ALL the time to review specs/prds
  • Commenting system
  • Popular view
  • Draft view
  • Default WYSWYG editor that works pretty well
  • Image paste from clipboard
  • A nice “default” layout

Confluence is not perfect, but in my experience is a nice blend between a more basic wiki system and something like google docs. My biggest gripe with google docs is there’s no sense of a “starting page” to help keep an organization’s docs together. The rich text aspect is great (besides code blocks…), however.

Other notes

  • It would be interesting to see if I could write something from scratch that fits the requirements I want better
